Our New Curtains

We had curtains installed in our bedrooms yesterday and I’m delighted with how they turned out!

Our home has 9ft ceilings throughout the upstairs, so we went with 108 inch curtains and had the hardware hung as close to the ceiling as possible, which was easier to do since we don’t have crown moulding. By the way, there is a blog post all about draperies (and how to hang them!) in the Design at Home series I have on my blog – see that post here.

One thing I did in our new home is to hang curtains with curtain rings instead of just putting them through the pole/rod. It makes them look more expensive and custom (I’m not a fan of grommet curtains – just a personal preference). I highly recommend doing this – watch my IG stories for how they’re attached to the rings with drapery hooks.

LINCOLN’S ROOM:

We had Lincoln’s curtains moved all the way ip like Harper’s. I don’t know why I didn’t initially  do that – I think because we had crown moulding in our last home, it made me think I couldn’t go higher, but you definitely can and should if you have the room. I am going to use no sew hem tape to take them up a bit – I don’t mind a bit of pooling but his are a little more pool-ey than I like.

  • Hardware – French return style

MASTER BEDROOM

Wow! These really elevated our space. Had I been able to, I would have had them move these windows closer to the bed during construction but the house was already framed out when we went under contract. I was worried about how the curtains would highlight the off-centeredness of the windows, but I actually think they give a defining touch to the space that makes it look even better.

If you’re looking for a way to enhance any space in your home, adding draperies is a surefire way to make a room more beautiful and “finished” looking. Of course custom draperies would always be a top choice if budget allows, but you can make inexpensive curtains look more custom with a few tricks: make sure they at least touch the floor (nothing too short), use drapery pins/rings to hang them and hang them high and wide of the window allows.

Have a great week!
